Smtp server software windows 2008

We have had to recreate a temporary exchange on server server to enable us to send and receive emails. Have you allowed anonymous on the default receive connector or created a new and allowed anonymous? So we are wondering if there is something blocking smtp on Server R2? We even disabled the Server R2 firewall completely. Is there an external firewall on your perimeter that may be preventing the Exchange server from using SMTP? Can you also post the configuration of the Send Connector?

My first thought would be a firewall going to the internet blocking port This problem has us confused completely. We have checked everything as far as our knowledge goes, but still dumbfounded on why server can telnet and server r2 cant. Your problem is network related going out on port 25 from Exchange 25 or at least I would guess.

I'm assuming your system can get to the internet i. We will be switching over to a new firewall shortly. In a day or so I will be testing a scenario involving smtp on this new firewall. Can you see the request on port 25 originating from the Windows server? Is the Windows FW turned off?

I would strongly recommend a network trace from the Windows R2 server. I have a similar problem Our firewall has SMTP Inspect running on it and sure enough every 10 seconds or so it kicks the telnet session out.

More than likely, you haven't given the SMTP server a good route to use for the message. If your intranet has a relay server for outbound SMTP, you'll need to specify that as the default route. It's probably trying to send it out to the internet directly but being blocked by your firewall. Does the SMTP service stop itself all the time?

Can you elaborate on the — user I would just post the message transaction log info for a particular email that is getting stuck in queue. That should suffice. Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 7. Show 2 more comments. Active Oldest Votes.

You should get a successful transmission. If you are only using this for an App to send mail from one machine, you can further lock it down by only allowing the IP address of the sending PC on which the App resides. I do this for our copiers to scan to email and it works fine.

One way only. If you've never hosted your own email services, you should keep in mind that this is a very relaxed setup to host your own sendmail service. If you get this working, you should at least consider having users use their domain account logins. As always, you can tighten this up more, but it should get you going. PS I should clarify that when I say sendmail, I'm definitely using the term wrong.

I'm sure the gurus are positioning themselves for a lynching right now. What I just did is kinda like swearing :. Apparently you still need the IIS 6. I set the smart host as smtp. Mail that goes into the pcikup folder gets moved to the queue folder but goes no further. I have checked our SonicWall firewall and port is open. Have you checked it for errors yet? Is there a way of loading a list of relay servers via PowerShell or VB script? I have approx.

Thank you very much Mark! Thank you also for the command line instructions; would love to try those out when time allows. I have installed the feature in Windows 7 with SP1. I am getting the following message but I am not receiving in my mailbox. Thanks Mark! This includes a dialog to add some additional items. In addition, select Specify credentials and enter the credentials required to connect to the remote SMTP server.
